California to legalize Cannabis – and tax it

This one is almost unbelievable:
“Assemblyman Tom Ammiano will announce legislation on Monday to legalize marijuana and earn perhaps $1 billion annually by taxing it.”
and
“Mecke said Ammiano’s proposed bill “would remove all penalties in California law on cultivation, transportation, sale, purchase, possession, or use of marijuana, natural THC, or paraphernalia for persons over the age of 21.”
More on this dreamlike story here and here and here.
Can the rest of the world please follow suit, now.
(thanks Ed)
Here’s a thought. If governments worldwide adopted this policy, there would be no more economic crisis. How about that?
UPDATE: here’s the news story

Hopefully the first of many states to consider the idea. Doing this in California would have a HUGE effect. Legalize by 2010!

I’m moving to California!
Or hope that Texas gets on board. The best
we can hope for here is probably some casinos
going up.
How the heck can something as toxic as alcohol
be legal and something that grows naturally
and has proven medical properties be illegal?
Being a chronic pain patient, I can only
hope that the backwards folks in Texas get
on board some day as well.

Hi Sheila. Yes I must admit California is looking more and more appealing as a destination.
Good luck with Texas!
