SPICE GOLD LATEST:
A ban has been announced for the 23rd December 2009. Official documentation
Most UK outlets don’t have any stock now.
I hadn’t heard about this stuff until recently. If you’re not aware it’s a synthetic version of cannabis, which has a similar effect, but is still legal (in the UK at least) though it has been banned in other countries.
There’s a very good article about it over at the Financial Times.
I was chatting to an old friend recently who excitedly told me about ‘ze spice’ that he’d been smoking. He lives in a country where it’s very difficult to score hash or weed, so he’s been ordering this stuff online. It has been a life saver to him.
I have tried it and I have to say it does get you kind of stoned. It definitely took my cravings away at the time and I did feel high. Not exactly the same thing but a very close brother, or maybe uncle.
Why are these products even appearing though?
It is my opinion that if the UK (and other) governments didn’t have such ridiculous cannabis laws that these type of products wouldn’t even be appearing – or selling. This is all symptomatic of the ‘head in sand’ ignorant attitude taken by the law makers.
People want to get stoned. People will get stoned. Accept the facts.
Why can’t they see the bigger picture?
UPDATE:
Spice Gold type products have just been banned in France.
UPDATE 2:
Spice gold remains legal in the UK but the government are now considering changing the law (of course) – article in the Guardian. Salvia will also be made illegal by the sounds of it. Time to stock up if you’re into that sort of thing.
