Arriving in Bangkok
I hadn’t been to Thailand before, but within seconds of setting foot inside the public area of the airport I was laughing along with a couple of enigmatic Thai travel agents who I apparently scared a little bit with my sudden approach.
It was a warm welcome and I immediately felt at home in this country. After a few formalities I was in a taxi hurtling through the smeltering Bangkok night to my chosen cannabis guesthouse. A different world awaited.
The driver got a little lost but eventually we pulled up at rentv38.com and that is where I entered what can only be described as a kind of cannabis heaven.
Just on the way to this guesthouse in Northern Bangkok I could see that cannabis culture had appeared in many parts of Bangkok, there were weed shops all over, almost as many as there were 7/11s.
The RentV38 Guesthouse

I hadn’t realized but this was apparently the first 420 friendly accommodation in Thailand.
There had been announcements about Thailand going medical before I arrived, so I was expecting perhaps to go through some consultation, but I was checked in quickly by friendly staff (everybody was super nice) and could immediately access a brain melting variety of high quality cannabis. And Hash. And Pre-rolls.
They even give you a lovely rolling tray. It was moving. A unique demonstration of how real freedom can be in a civilized country.
The building itself feels uber relaxed, with superb facilities, and really interesting cannabis art around the place. It has a very chill, spacious feel to it, as well as a lovely gang of cute bulldogs.

It feels peaceful, despite the city location. The rooftop smoking area is extremely well put together with a luscious display of plants and provides a great place to smoke, relax or chat to others.
You can meet all kinds of people here, there’s an interesting international mixture of guests, as you might imagine.
I didn’t use the swimming pool but it looked good.

My room was great. I think it was on the quieter side of the building. A nice desk area to work as well as basic cooking facilities, decent bathroom, good air conditioning, and the all important balcony area, where you must smoke. Cleaning was efficient.
There is no restaurant, but directly opposite there is a great coffee shop run by two very cheerful Thai ladies that also does a half decent breakfast. Well worth it. There’s Thai restaurants down the road and of course you can use the Grab app to order food to reception.
The local area around the guesthouse is not so crazy like central Bangkok, apparently it’s classed more like a middle class residential area. This was good for me.
There’s a 7-11 a stone’s throw away. Where everybody is also very friendly. It’s reasonably quiet apart from the nearby motorways. I loved my time here and was a little sad to leave. I will return.

Dr Green, Bangkok
Whilst in Bangkok I decided I should visit Dr Green, as it was very well reviewed. In the end it was around an hour in a taxi, and on the way there crossing busy city streets I somehow managed to get marooned on a traffic island with masses of traffic flying by on both sides. There was no obvious escape from this situation.
Luckily a Thai policeman had seen what had happened and sprang to my rescue, stepping into the road, and stopped the traffic for me. It was all I could do not to kiss him. What a magnificent country. Police who actually look out for the people. A new experience.

Dr Green’s was the only place where I found an on-site doctor, who I chatted with, and not long after I had a prescription I could use for my time in Bangkok, if I needed. I didn’t need it.
Service here was professional but quite formal and I didn’t spend too long here, the weed wasn’t quite as reasonable as I had hoped, but I was probably missing the good deals.
Having grown weed myself over the years I have a real mental block buying weed that is over 9 or 10 euros a gram.
Fat Buds

These guys had been highly recommended online so I was keen to check them out, in the end I didn’t make it to their shops, but this didn’t matter as they run an efficient delivery service and are highly responsive over Whatsapp.
Fat Buds have great quality cannabis and will do you a good deal on bulk like 20/30 grams.
Most places will give you a bulk discount it’s worth checking this out. I got some beautiful SFV OG Kush and some other bits from these guys, I wish I had them on call now!
Lovely Chiang Mai

I didn’t know much about Chiang Mai, apart from that it was Thailand’s second city, and was linked to some controversial Elephant tours. That was about it.
As soon as I arrived here I felt a welcoming, relaxed vibe, not the vibe of a city, more of a small village.
I was staying in the old town, a quick drive from the airport, at the interestingly named Blue Dream guesthouse (Free doobie on every tour).

Although the facilities might be a little basic for some, it’s great value. I enjoyed my time here, the ladies running the place were lovely and even upgraded my mattress, which was appreciated.
There is also a beautiful friendly cat!

Walking out of the guesthouse, in any direction you are hit by incredibly beautiful, stunning temples and a plethora of chilled cafes and restaurants of all types.
Chiang Mai is a delight to explore on foot, it really is full of interesting surprises, and worth getting a little lost.
There are dazzling markets here too, if you’re into that sort of thing.
I ended up going to the Blue Diamond breakfast club once I discovered it. Tucked away from the main street, this is a gem, with a stream in the restaurant.
Friendly, helpful staff and a huge variety of breakfast options served with a smile. They also make their own snacks which are worth investigation. And no cigarette smoking allowed within 7 metres! Beautiful.

As well as the relaxed vibe, opposite a Thai boxing establishment, I could see at least 3 cannabis dispensaries from the guesthouse window! What a beautiful town.
You cannot be wandering around the street smoking weed, however, it must be done on private premises, which is not a problem if you stay in a cannabis guesthouse, or have a hotel balcony.
There are so many cannabis dispensaries in Chiang Mai (despite the headlines of thousands closing) and I wish I could have stayed longer and visited more.

The best one I found for quality was a place called Haze Buds, the guys there clearly know their craft and I had some of the nicest bud I had in Thailand out of this place. Friendly knowledgeable staff and amazing buds.
It was great to see how cannabis can exist in a modern society without the wheels coming off, which is so often claimed. Canada and now Thailand demonstrate how a legal cannabis environment can look. It’s really not so crazy. And it’s way beyond time other countries caught up.
Cool article 😁
